With tomorrow ending the current contract the City of Joshua has with the Johnson County Emergency Services District and the results of final contract negotiations yet to be determined my little digital sounding board here has had a lot of visitors. With that in mind this is a great time to brag about our fire department.
Under the leadership of Chief Wayne Baker the volunteers that make up our roster have proven themselves to be the best and most dedicated group of men and women a city could ask for. The support we've seen from them through this process with the ESD has been extremely encouraging.
At the very real prospect of discontinuing dispatch from the ESD at midnight tomorrow night our crew has filled the board for the next several days to staff the station round the clock and make sure the transition to our alternative dispatch center goes smoothly and that service to the residents of Joshua is fast and uninterrupted. The best part? They did it on their own before ever having to be asked. This is what dedication looks like.
Regardless of contracts and politics the Joshua firefighters are ready when the call comes in. May God bless each and every one of them and keep them safe in their duties.
A.J.
