Erika and I attended this month's Johnson County elected officials dinner tonight in Rio Vista, Texas. This was my second dinner to attend and last month's was here in Joshua.
The program tonight was a look at the local Christmas in Action charity organization. They seem like a wonderful group of volunteers that do home renovation projects for the elderly and disabled in our area. They had some great before and after pictures of the 6 or so projects they've done this year. I highly recommend checking them out if you're interested in volunteering in a manner that directly affects people right here at home.
After the program Rio Vista's mayor got down to the business of giving away some door prizes. It was fun to watch people get excited to win a 12 pack of Dr. Pepper from the local grocery store or a big sack of wild bird seed from the feed store. Erika and I cleaned up too taking home a hummingbird feeder from Rio Vista Hardware and a $10 gift certificate to the Rio Sno & Snack Shack. If anyone knows where the Rio Sno & Snack Shack is please drop me a line because I fully intend to go back down to Rio Vista for at least $10 worth of Sno and/or Snacks.
We were the only Joshua attendees tonight, but that was OK since we got to chat with several people I've gotten to know in the county and other cities.
Johnson County may not have all the big city things that our neighbors to the north have, but we've got a lot of great people that care about their communities and I'm enjoying getting to know them all.
A.J.
