Some of the most fun was had during our hands-on experiences like traffic stops, crime scene investigation and building searches. You wouldn't think that controlled situations would get your adrenaline up, but try searching dark offices with a plastic training pistol and a flashlight knowing somewhere someone was hiding from you or when you approached a vehicle for a "routine" traffic stop not knowing if that person had a gun and was ready to pull the trigger.
The class accomplished exactly what it was designed to do. I came away with a new level of respect for the men and women who wear the badge. It opened my eyes to things in my community that I can do to help the department out and help make our city safer. It introduced me to the people that are protecting us and I enjoyed getting to know each one of them.
Thanks to Chief Annabeth Robertson and Captain Leland Cheek for making Joshua's first class a terrific success.
