Local RINO's

Local news this week has highlighted the support Chet Edwards, CD-17 incumbent Democrat, has gained from local "Republicans".  I'm sorry, but if you're voting for a Democrat then you're not a Republican.  You may share some of the views of the Republican Party, but you're an independent at best.  The funniest example has got to be former Cleburne mayor Ted Reynolds who just six months ago was defeated in the Republican primary for Texas state representative for district 58.  Apparently Mr. Reynolds has decided to never run for office again as a Republican.  If he does it will be an inexpensive campaign for his opponent.  A copy of the Joshua Star picture of Ted at the podium with the Chet Edwards campaign signs behind him will certainly seal his fate at the ballot box.

What's really funny though is the reason that so many local supporters are giving for backing Chet...pork.  They love that magic government money that Chet so generously brings to the district.  What they're really saying is "I don't mind at all that I'm so overtaxed at the federal level that even the government can't spend all the money so our representatives fight over the extra and Chet is really good at winning those fights."  They've just illustrated that they can be bought.  As Roger Waters once wrote - "Each man has his price, Bob, and yours was pretty low."  So as not to be construed as a hypocrite the City of Joshua was granted federal money last year for our new city park and some drainage projects that Chet Edwards worked to get.  I thanked the Congressman for doing that as long as our government functions in such an unfortunate manner.  The work of true conservative Republicans is to change the way of doing business in Washington though and that's what Mr. Edward's opponent, Bill Flores, intends to do.

If the so-called Republicans think Chet is so conservative then why does he still have a "D" after his name on the roster and why does he vote with Nancy Pelosi's agenda almost all the time?  It's true that he voted against the healthcare bill and the handful of other big attention getting, progressive moves by the Obama administration. He had no choice.  His district doesn't line up with his way of thinking and he wanted to at least have a chance of keeping his job in November.  It's all the other actions throughout the year that the media never even looks at that are the real problem.  That's where he's right down the party line.

The only other big thing that Chet seems to flaunt is his veterans support.  What politician doesn't support our military, their families and our veterans?  OK, some far left nuts would probably like to disband our military altogether and imprison our vets for war crimes, but any sane individual supports them at every chance.  We don't need a liberal in a conservative district to fight for veteran and military support.

It's time for a real conservative to represent a real conservative district.  It's time to send Bill Flores to Washington for CD-17 to help right this ship.
