Semantics or Socialism?

I'm getting tired of the phrase "Bush era tax cuts".  What I earn is mine.  What you earn is yours.  As a self-governing people we (the majority at the time) decided to begin taxing ourselves to fund our government.  Rates of tax have gone up and down since that process began, but the baseline tax rate by which it all should be measured is zero percent.  "Bush era tax cuts" insinuates a baseline tax rate of 100% and that good old Uncle Sam generously gave us a gift of our own money for a while.  The tax rate adopted during George W's term of office was a reduced rate from his predecessor.  The proposed higher rates by the current administration are just that - higher rates.  This congress would like to spin our heads around into thinking that we're just going back to what is normal.

A lower tax rate will never deserve a "thank you" and a higher tax rate will always deserve an explanation.
