ESD Guessing Game continued....

I've received additional information regarding the opposition to Captain Gilbert's nomination for appointment to the ESD board.  Apparently some people in the district fire service had issue previously with fire dispatch policy when the Sheriff's Office still handled fire dispatch.  For that reason some preferred not to have anyone associated with the S.O. dispatch leadership serve on the ESD board. I don't know what the specifics are on those differences, but I understand well that people have their own opinions on who should serve on the ESD board.  After all the people that came to me speaking highly of him I am still of the opinion that Captain Gilbert was more than qualified for the position.  I appreciate his willingness to serve and the job he continues to do for the people of Johnson County each day.

Commissioner Matthews does have at least one other qualified person willing to serve so we'll see what his decision will be for his nominee.

  1. You are correct many departments had issue with this because of the issues with the S.O. when they did the dispatching, The Leadership of the S.O was notifie of the concern and they attended the meeting were concerns where voiced and still nothing resolved, as a member of the fire service when a call was called into the the S.O it could take as long a 20 to 30 minutes before it was distpatch endangering lives, not taking anything from the S.O. but there primary job when distpaching is there deputies in the field, so to many this is way the rejection of the canidate that was chose.

  2. I would have to agree with Michael. The S.O. dispatch is a great bunch of people, but the fire departments were not a priority. We deal with saving lives and property and when there is a delay in dispatch, then there is a delay in your fire department responding to you or your loved ones who need our help. Johnson county is mostley volunteer fire departments and we work hard to serve the citizens of this county. We need people on the ESD board who can and will volunteer alot of thier time to the citizens and fire departments of this county. We have some great ESD commissioners on the board and do what's Best for the whole county. Not just one city or fire district. Political agenda's can't come into play when you are dealing with people's life's every day. I thank those who work so hard at saving lives and property for the citizens of Johnson County.
