Nothing is ever certain when dealing with the Johnson County Emergency Services District. Accepting appointments by the Johnson County Commissioners to the ESD board had previously been described as a "professional courtesy", but apparently things have changed. Precinct 2 Commissioner, John Matthews, put on the agenda what seemed like a great candidate to replace outgoing ESD President Glenn Reue, but others apparently disagreed. Captain Mike Gilbert is a high-ranking officer in the Johnson County Sheriff's Office with specific emergency dispatch experience, but fear and paranoia by some county fire chiefs (and apparently commissioners as well) that he would somehow become an informant in a grand scheme by the JCSO to take over fire service in the county forced Commissioner Matthews to table the item before a vote. The leader of the back room club that thought that one up over the weekend should be nominated for conspiracy theorist of the year. There must have been some interesting conversations going on between Friday and Monday to have the agenda item bumped up to the top as the meeting started and immediately tabled.
I guess one thing has become certain in all this, however. A precedent has been set that ESD board nominations can be protested.

From where I sit it was the Johnson County Commissoners that had a issue with this, I do nt think the ESD had anything to do with, we ned to take the personal aggenda out and work whats right for the public. Personally a S.O. guy that is in charge of Dispatch, and patrol I don't see how he would have the time to dedicate the time for this position.
