Ramping up to Christmas

Yesterday was a big day for the Mathieu kids. We got going early for Burleson's pancake breakfast and a chance to sit on Santa's lap for the all important discussion of wants. Unfortunately for Alex he won't be getting a four-wheeler, a grader or a ten-story house this year. Ayson just cried, but then ate a lot of pancakes.

To top off a fun day we participated in the Joshua Christmas parade. Portraying one of the most fortunate six year olds ever, Alex rode with me in our Rescue 177 fire truck. It was fantastic! I was so proud of him for the enthusiasm he showed in stepping right up to wave and yell "Merry Christmas!" to everyone he saw. Our most honorable of chauffeurs, department chaplain Jesse Davis, made the ride even more enjoyable. A special thanks to Chief Baker for allowing us to hitch a ride.

Today I accompanied our city manager, Paulette Hartman, and director of operations, Mike Peacock to the fire department's Christmas party. I was glad to have the opportunity to go to show my appreciation for the department. I enjoyed seeing this year's award winners recognized and meeting a few more people. We have such a great group of brave public servants, but to look around that room today and consider that they all volunteer for the job makes me even more proud of them.

Merry Christmas,

A.J.
