Back to business

My work on our local Extreme Makeover Home Edition project will come to a conclusion this afternoon when we "Move That Bus!" so I can change hats and head over to city hall for tonight's council meeting. Of course everyone is invited and encouraged to attend every council meeting, but tonight I'll be sworn in so if you supported me in the election (or if you did not) please come out and say "hi". The council will recess briefly for a reception after I take the oath of office so everyone will have a few minutes to chat.

There are a couple agenda items on for tonight that everyone should find of interest. Tonight will be the first of several meetings dealing with a November bond election. The council will hear a report from our Citizens Capital Projects Review Committee tonight and vote to accept as written or amend the findings to determine what bond issues will be on the ballot and what that money would be spent on if passed by the voters.

The second item of particular interest is our city recycling program. The grant that we received a year ago to begin the program ends this month so we need to decide how to proceed and at what cost. I for one really like recycling and will vote to continue the program in some capacity. The council has options to continue our trash collection and recycling as is or to reduce our trash collection frequency down to once per week in order to save cost for the citizens. This seems like a reasonable option too. My household has reduced our trash by at least one bag per week since beginning to recycle. I'd like to hear from you though so please email me your thoughts today.

A.J.
