This is actually the third of three blog posts I'm publishing today. I did them in reverse order so this one would be at the top of the page for you so read on after this.
Last night was good. Other than the invocation and pledges of allegiance my swearing in was the first item on the agenda. I appreciate the council and city staff doing it early in the meeting so my family could attend before my little guy's bed times. Afterward we recessed for about 15 minutes for everyone to chat with some punch and cookies and then we got down to business.
After being sworn in, the council voted to elect our Mayor Pro-Tem for this session. Councilman Walden was promptly nominated and seconded and I nominated Councilman Isom. After having observed Mr. Isom over the last few months and getting to know him a little better I think he would do well as mayor pro-tem, but my nomination did not get a second so it died. Mr. Isom was not in attendance last night, unfortunately. Mr. Walden abstained from the vote, but was elected with 4 "ayes". I was a "nay" and that concluded my first official vote as a councilman.
We moved on to bigger issues such as trash collection and bond election and I've detailed those a bit further in the next two posts.
A.J.
