We had another successful tea party in Burleson, Texas this morning with some great people speaking. It was no surprise that cap and trade and government healthcare were the big topics. Our government is out of control and out of bounds. The boundaries, of course, having been set by our Constitution. Our so-called representatives in Washington have completely lost touch with the reality of the American people.
The next most popular subject this morning is on the action plan side of getting back on track. For us here locally it's who will go up against our liberal incumbent U.S. Congressman, Chet Edwards in 2010. There are several candidates up for the Republican nomination to finally send Chet home. For me the guy will be Rob Curnock. Rob came really close in 2008 to beating Chet and I know he'll finish the job in 2010. I think we can count on the Republican party to actually help out in next year's race since every Democrat we can get rid of will be an important race and Rob Curcnock has the support to get that done.
My hope is that the other Republican challengers will not drag their campaigns out to the bitter end and cause a divide in the district. We've got to be united on this because Chet Edwards will be very well funded by the Democratic party and those who want to move forward the Obama/Pelosi agenda.
I would never want to stifle anyone who feels lead to run for office, but I do want to encourage those who are running for the same goal to be realistic and responsible to what will serve the people the best in the end. At this point I consider the other Republican challengers as "branch offices" for Rob Curnock's campaign. They live in different parts of the district so I hope they can really rally some support for removing Chet Edwards and then transfer that support to Curnock and win the race in a big way.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Rob a couple times now and today I got to chat with his wife, Karen, for a while. They are really great people and Rob's heart is really in this to return conservative values to Washington and represent the people of Texas District 17.
