I had the pleasure of attending today's meeting of the Johnson County Republican Women in Cleburne. I enjoyed meeting everyone and appreciated a couple minutes to introduce myself and talk about my run for Joshua City Council. The JCRW is a terrific organization that I highly recommend anyone get involved with if you're ready to step out and be a part of the solution.
Today's keynote speaker was Mr. Rob Curnock. Rob ran against Chet Edwards for the District 17 U.S. Congressional seat last fall and lost by just 4.5%. He's poised and ready for the 2010 election now and has my full support. He's a remarkable candidate ready to represent the conservative values that the Republican party used to be known for.
Rob said something that really rang with me today and that's that he is a conservative first and a Republican second. I've struggled to even call myself a Republican for several years now since the politicians calling themselves Republicans do not act like me anymore...at least most of them. I hope that over the coming few years we'll have more people stand up for what the GOP used to be about and turnover our congress. Its partisan politics that continue to divide the country. Lets get back to people voting their conscience, values and the will of those who elected them and not for party agendas and personal gain.
