Meeting the people

I've got a few days of door knocking under my belt now and I'm covering some good ground. It's actually been a lot of fun walking some neighborhoods that I haven't spent any time in previously. I'm looking forward to having a much broader knowledge of our city by the time I'm done.

Since I'm going out in either the morning or afternoon to put out campaign cards a lot of people are not home, but the ones that are have been very kind and receptive for the most part.

There have been a few people that were, lets say, less than interested in receiving my message. For example, the gentleman that came to the door and as I started explaining who I was and why I was there he slowly started closing the door while still peeking around the edge just a bit. I'm sure my cadence slowed a bit as I processed what was going on and as the door clicked closed I first thought "he must be moving something away from the back of the door to open it further", but as the seconds ticked by I realized I got my first door slammed in my face - less the actual slamming part. I had to sort of laugh and moved on to the next house with a smile on my face. After all he certainly had the right.

Another notable rejection was when a man kindly listened to my rather quick monologue and accepted the card I handed him. He looked at it a moment, handed it back to me and simply said "no.". OK, thanks for your time. Again a smile and walk on. Plenty more people to meet.

I'll get into a few success stories in my next post.

A.J.
